Browser Benchmarking is something that a lot of tech web site show you to prove that their favourite browser is faster than the competitors. This web site is dedicated to running all the major browsers against all the major benchmark tools so you can make up your own mind as to which browser is faster.
While the results may vary for yourself (faster or slower) the aim is to show the the relative speeds differences of each browser compared to each other not the absolute speeds on one particular platform.
Testing Methodology
The test’s I run are only on the latest “release” versions of browsers on Windows 7 (as that is all I have). The benchmarks I am running are also only testing the performance of the browsers and not the HTML compliance.
These are the following benchmarks sites I am using:
- SunSpider (Sun)
- V8 (Google)
JSBenchmark(Currently not working)- Kraken Benchmark (Mozilla)
- Canvas Performance Test
- New: WebVizBench
FishIE Tank (Microsoft)(Replace with WebVizBench)
These are the browsers that I am testing with:
(Note i will only test “release” browsers).
- Internet Explorer 9 (32bit)
- Chrome 12
- Firefox 5
I plan to repost these stats each time there is a new “release” version of any of these browsers as I believe that comparing “release” version with “beta” versions is not a fair comparison.
If you know of another browser benchmarking website that you would like to see added please leave a comment and I see what I can do…
FAQ?
Why no Safari? Safari is predominantly used on OSX / iOS based device, while it can run on Windows it is certainly not a popular on the Windows platform therefore I do not see the need to test it.
Why no Opera? Opera currently has less than 2% global market share and it therefore will not be tested.
